Case Study: Major Remodel VII

The Brief

This family decided to remodel their home to create more space and take full advantage of the spectacular mountain views.

First, a front addition was built to create more space in one of the downstairs bedrooms. Then, a two story addition was built in the back of the home. The two story addition included enlarging the existing kitchen area to create an eat in kitchen, extending the small living room to include a dining room, and building an upstairs loft with a master bedroom, master bathroom, art studio and upper deck.

Our Solution

To add more space to the downstairs bedroom, the wall located in the front of the house was removed to make room for the extension. Then three walls were built to create the extension. Next, a large picture window was installed and the exterior stuccoed and painted. The interior of the bedroom extension was taped, textured and received a fresh coat of paint which finalized the front addition.

To remodel the kitchen, a wall was removed and the space opened to create more kitchen work space and room to gather. New cabinetry, granite countertops, appliances, tile flooring and lighting were installed to finish the new contemporary kitchen layout.

The lower back addition is located off both the kitchen and living room creating a new open area. The dining room area provides a great view of the backyard and mountains.

The spiral staircase just off the kitchen area leads up to the master bedroom, bathroom and art studio. In the master bedroom new carpet, windows and light fixtures were installed. In the master bathroom a new jacuzzi tub, walk in tile shower, tile flooring, vanity, light fixtures and water closet were installed. The master bedroom also includes a large walk in closet and window. The art studio is located just off the master bedroom. The custom art studio was built to include two windows to inspire the homeowner and their artistry. New tile flooring was also installed in the studio.

Another unique feature of this two story addition is the exterior upper deck just outside the master bedroom.

Then, to finish the exterior remodel the entire home including the front and back additions were stuccoed and painted a warm new color. The house also received a whole new tile roof.
